Performers known as Joaldunak dance through the streets from village to village, the cow-bells attached to their sheepskin costumes rhythmically ringing out.

The ritual, which is thought to date back thousands of years, is held to ward off evil sprits and awaken the spring, and is among Basque traditions once banned in Spain.
