A novice nun holds her hands together and prays at the Sathira-Dhammasathan Buddhist meditation centre in Bangkok, where a group of Thai girls chose to spend part of their school holidays living as Buddhist nuns - even down to having their heads shaven.

The centre was founded in 1987 and has programs open not just to young girls, but also to others regardless of age and gender.
