For 500 years, the small central Spanish village of San Bartolome de los Pinares has embraced a tradition that sees men, women and even children ride galloping horses through fire for the "Luminarias" festival.

In the picture above, a man rides through the flames with a child to purify and protect the horse for the rest of the year, as the village celebrates in honour of Saint Anthony, patron saint of animals.
