Most people share their wedding day with family and friends. But the newlyweds who got married in a mass ceremony at the Unification Church in South Korea this February shared their special day with thousands of other brides and grooms as well.

Some 3,500 couples came to the mass wedding held by the Unification Church, which began performing collective marriage ceremonies in the 1960s.

Vast crowds of newlyweds stand packed together in the Cheongshim Peace World Centre in Gapyeong, where the Unification Church ceremony was held.

The Church, officially called the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, was founded in Seoul in 1954 by evangelist reverend Moon Sun-myung, who declared himself a messiah.

It performed its first mass wedding in 1961 with 33 couples, and it now marries thousands of couples at a time and has millions of followers around the world.
