President Barack Obama has won a second term in the White House, overcoming doubts among voters about his handling of the U.S. economy to score a clear victory over Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

The coalition of young, female and minority voters, like Jeleesa Kirk from Chicago, that propelled Obama to victory four years ago - turned out again, in huge numbers.

Exit polls reflected a pro-Obama turnout by minorities and single women so big that in some key states it exceeded numbers seen during his historic election in 2008 as America's first black president.
