Dogs, speed and gambling. This potent combination helps to draw fans who come to watch greyhound racing in Santiago every weekend.

As the dogs dash down a straight track of around 220 yards, some can reach up to a little under 50 miles per hour according to organisers. Bets can be anything from $2 to $1,000 on a single race.

Most of the fans who attend the greyhound racing are from rural areas of Santiago. The dogs they come to watch are sometimes from places much further afield, including Argentina, the United States and Ireland.
