Life in a truck

Life in a truck

Ever since former newspaper journalist Modesto Sotero suffered a stroke nearly a decade ago, he and his wife Maria Josefina Perez have turned a truck into their home in order to make ends meet.

The couple, both in their early 80s, have no children or family members and everything they own — just a few personal items —is packed in their truck under a busy bridge.

The pair ran out of money after Sotero underwent surgery following the stroke. Since then, they get by on Sotero’s small pension and by begging for money from passing drivers. They bathe and cook in a shack, pictured above, attached to the back of their truck.

Still, despite the difficulties they have faced over the years, both say they are happy with the life they lead.
