Jerusalem has experienced its worst snowstorm in 20 years this week, as 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 centimetres) of snow piled up in the city centre and surrounding areas were covered even more deeply, paralysing public transport, roads and schools. Days of extreme weather across the region killed at least 17 people in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Israel and the Palestinian Territories, along with dozens of deaths reported by opposition activists in Syria.
