More than two weeks of sporting drama drew to a close on February 23 with the end of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

Reuters photographers were there to capture all the key moments, from the first ever shared Gold in Olympic Alpine skiing, to Canada's nail-biting win in overtime in the women's hockey final.

In one of the more dramatic episodes of the Games, US snowboarder Shaun White - considered by many as the ultimate daredevil on snow - pulled out of his first event and failed to win a medal in his second.

"I'm happy just to take this for what it is and move on and continue to ride and put my best foot forward," he said.

Sochi was also a politically charged event, with controversy running high over Russia's anti-gay propaganda legislation and accusations of corruption surrounding the Games.

During the Olympics, members of protest group Pussy Riot were beaten by Cossacks with a whip as they tried to perform a song in front of a wall displaying a large Sochi Games logo.
