On the first Sunday of October, thousands of cycling aficionados ride their vintage bikes through the lush green hillsides of Tuscany on the world famous “Eroica” route.
Atop steel-framed tandem bikes or traditional high-wheelers, the cyclists careen through the steep, dusty and gravelly roads of the Chianti region, stopping occasionally for wine, cheese and meats at refreshment stands along a route dotted with medieval villages.
