Brothers in arms
Members of the rebel group Martyr Al-Abbas rest in a safe house in Aleppo, a scene of bloody fighting in Syria’s two-year conflict, which the United Nations estimates has so far killed at least 93,000.
Among the ranks of Martyr Al-Abbas are five brothers, who said the group was first established in memory of their sibling Abbas Sheikh Yasine, who died fighting against forces of President Bashar al-Assad.
The five brothers line up with their weapons as they pose for a picture. They said that before the war started and they later began fighting with the rebel group, operating under the Free Syrian Army, one of them used to work in the decor industry, another in a restaurant, and the three others were in school.
